ITVF and CUPES join forces to propel table volleyball in China
In a major step forward for the rapidly growing sport of table volleyball, Mr. Yang Haibing, Secretary of the Party Committee at the Capital University of Physical Education and Sport (CUPES), confirmed an official cooperation agreement between CUPES and the International Table Volleyball Federation (ITVF). The collaboration includes the development of specialized courses and dedicated training programs for players, further solidifying CUPES’s role as a key partner in the sport’s international expansion.
This partnership represents a strategic alignment between one of China’s most respected sports institutions and the leading global authority in table volleyball. Established in March 2023, the ITVF has quickly emerged as a pioneering force, advocating a fresh, inclusive take on traditional volleyball. Table volleyball – a sport played on uniquely curved tables – invites participation from all demographics, regardless of age, gender, or physical ability. It can be played indoors or outdoors, making it both flexible and accessible.
"Table volleyball is more than a sport – it's a movement," said Mr. Istvan Dobrei, ITVF Secretary General. "Our mission is to build a global community based on diversity, innovation, and the pure joy of play. Partnering with CUPES strengthens our efforts in education and athletic development, especially in a region where interest is rapidly growing."
That interest was clearly demonstrated in December 2024, when Hong Kong hosted Asia’s first-ever TEQVOLY™ event. Held at Go Park Sai Sha on December 7, the event drew over 150 participants and spectators, showcasing the sport’s exciting potential. With thrilling rallies and high-energy matches, the debut tournament marked a historic milestone for table volleyball in Asia and hinted at a promising future.
Now, with the new CUPES-ITVF cooperation in place, the stage is set for even greater developments. Planned initiatives include academic integration of table volleyball training at CUPES, support for coaching certification programs, and expanded outreach across schools and communities throughout China.
As ITVF continues to build its global presence, this partnership signals a clear commitment to nurturing talent and fostering the values of inclusivity and innovation. Whether on school grounds, urban parks, or professional arenas, table volleyball is carving out a new niche in the world of sport – one curved table at a time.
